“I am not a believer. My older brother used to go for walks with our granddad. And on one of these walks, our granddad christened him. That’s why I didn’t want to go for walks with him anymore,” said Polish director Wojciech Smarzowski. He came to the SFS along with Wojciech Rzehak, a co-author of the script, to present his latest film Clergy (2018), the third most visited movie in Poland for the last 30 years.

Smarzowski’s controversial drama about the lives of clerics attracted an enormous number of festival visitors who, after the screening, also learned some background details about the shooting or the director’s personal faith. “If we had waited for the Church’s permission to shoot in their premises, we would have been waiting till now. Therefore, we did the shooting in the Czech Republic,” added Smarzowski.
