Retrospection:
William Wyler

“I had known all the horrors of no direction and bad direction. I now knew what a great director was and what he could mean to an actress. I will always be grateful to him for his toughness and his genius.” This is what Bette Davis, one of the greatest screen legends, said about the man who always sensed quality in texts reworking them into great film adaptations, who was a total perfectionist and last but certainly not least had a remarkable ability to direct his actors. All these, despite the limiting conditions of the Hollywood studios, made him one of the greatest American filmmakers of classic Hollywood cinema.
